It only takes a minute to sign up. I am running a fresh install of centos 7 gnome so I could rdp from windows I followed the following instructions but when I connect I get an additional login that says. In an attempt to solve this problem I tried a solution here but it did not work. When you login into your system via remote session, you will see this message popping up. You can simply cancel and you will be able to proceed till the next time you login and start a new session.
To avoid this prompt, we will need to change the polkit configuration. Using admin privileges, create a file called allow-colord.
The file should contains the following instructions and you should not be prompted anymore with such authentication request while remoting into your system. None of the other two answers worked for me, so I used a more drastic proposal to simply disallow changing the colour profile:. The following solution from this page worked for me see section titled How to "fix" this issue :.
Note that the above is one of two 'not recommended' ways. However, for my little home lab setup, it worked fine with no undesirable side effects that I can see. There are two other recommended solutions that I did not try.

Rui F Ribeiro With the changes mentioned above, I can workaround this issue. Great answer; thanks for including the references. This worked for me on Fedora 28, connecting with VNC. I have some upvotes these days and possibly some distribution needs a bug fix or something I think that adding once your distribution that gives this error you will help to find out which distro needs a bug report to get fixed the sooner possible.
Not sure if this could be acceptable or suggested here, but thinking it could help. The linked bug was about fedora 23 and has already been closed as EOL. I think it would help to know what disto gives this error these days. I also had to restart polkit to load the new rule file i. Rebooting should also work. This doesn't really work for me on Centos 8. Nemo Nemo 1, 1 1 gold badge 8 8 silver badges 7 7 bronze badges.

This section will briefly explained the problem and how to reproduce it. With no additional configurations, you should be able to perform, after the installation of the xrdp package, a remote desktop session to your Ubuntu machine.
Open your favorite remote desktop client, type the hostname or ip address of the remote machine and connect. You should see the xrdp login screen.
Provide your credentials and wait for the login process to complete. At this stage, you should see your Ubuntu Desktop but you should see the following popups showing up.
Press Cancel. Create managed color device ….
Depending the Desktop interface, you might see only 2 authentication popup or possibly more up to 4 popups. After dismissing all these popups, you will be able to access your desktop and perform your task on the computer using remote connections software solution…. Ubuntu is using the PolKit software component. PolKit is basically an application authorization framework that will capture actions performed by a user and check if this user is authorized to perform such action on the system.
PolKit reads some policy files that will specify if the user requested by the user is authorized, not authorized or need authentication. Polkit provide s a way to implement granular authorization to users based on the action requested.
When you perform the remote login on Ubuntu and the popup appears, it simply means that the Polkit Policy file for this action cannot be performed without authentication first. Now, if you logon locally on the system, no popup are displayed because Polkit application has evaluated that this action does not need authentication.
This means that Polkit can differentiate between a local session and a remote session.Installation Simple setup with no user logged into console This is a simple setup without using TLS and certificates. Also, it requires that no person is logged into the console when attempting to connect. With Ubuntu This can happen if TLS is setup incorrectly.xrdp - Remote Desktop into Linux using RDP - Linux CLI
From Windows, use Remote Desktop Connect to connect, and after inputting the username and password at the xrdp login screen one gets a password prompt noting: Authentication Required Authentication is required to create a color profile However, the prompt reappears after inputting the correct password. This is due to not adding a polkit rule. From Windows, use Remote Desktop Connect to connect, at the xrdp login screen using Session Xorg, after inputting the username and password one gets a blank screen.
This can happen due to how one is logged into Ubuntu at the console. Unfortunately, by default it does not act like Windows, where the console will become locked, and the console session will be redirected to the RDP connection. One will have to log out first.
From Windows, use Remote Desktop Connect to connect, at the xrdp login screen using Session Xorg, after inputting the username and password one logs in but no docks exists. While tackling these activities, a minor issue has been detected that was not present when installing xRDP on top of Ubuntu So, at this stage, you are ready to perform your first remote desktop connection.
Start your favorite remote desktop client and enter ip address or host name. You might see some warnings dialog box. Accept them and then you should be presented with the xRDP login page. Provide your credentials.
If your credentials are valid, you will be logged into the remote session but you will be immediately prompted with an Authentication Required to create managed color device popup box. Again, this behavior is expected and solution has been provided already in one of our previous posts see here. At this stage, you can decide to either pass your credentials or cancel the request. This will grant you access to the desktop interface through the remote session. Ok, this message is new and never showed up in Ubuntu When logged on locally, no popups are displayed because these actions create managed color device or refresh system repositories have been authorized.
However, when we are performing a remote login and try to perform the same actions, the polkit configuration detect the remote login and might be blocking common actions performed by a standard user. Multiple ways exists to bypass this Polkit authorization framework application. In our famous xrdp installation scripts, to overcome the authentication required popup box for managed color device, we basically create a file and save it as allow-colord.
The configuration above only fixes the managed color device popup box. To bypass the system repositories refresh authentication popup boxwe have to either create an addition file or update the file we have just created. To keep it simple, we have added all the necessary authorization rules in a single file i. The content of the file should be similar to the one below.Their travel expert Sigfus worked with before and during the trip to ensure we made the most of vacation.
His suggestions were on point and we are glad that we used this travel agency. The in person consultation was another example of excellence.
We even got calls during to make sure we are OK and to give us updates on volcano. Thanks to Nordic Visitor and Sigfus, our Iceland trip was the most memorable one. Everything was smooth from pick up of tickets in the Oslo train station to check in at each hotel.
Ubuntu 18.04 xrdp authentication is required to create a color managed device
A truly wonderful train trip. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of beautiful Norway, the tour was very well organized and easy to negotiate without a guide. It provides a good introduction to Norway for the first time visitor and I would highly recommend it.
Thank you so much, we had a wonderful trip and Nordic Visitor and in particular Cecilia were wonderful. You have made it a special and memorable time for us and we thank you for all your work and attention to detail.
My wife and I completed the Iceland Full Circle self drive trip on August 26 arranged by Hilmar and Signy of Nordic Visitor. We were happy with all of our accommodations and very glad that we waited until after our trip began to plan a couple optional excursions such as the zodiac boat ride on a glacial lagoon and the Blue Lagoon on a rainy day the day we departed.
The scenery was so spectacular that we hiked more than I expected we would plus since we lucked out on the weather, we wanted to be outside. Bad weather our last two days caused us to explore a textile museum and the Skagafjordur Folk Museum featuring turf buildings. Helpful hint-if you want to climb Mount Namafjall (mud pots, fumaroles, etc.
I would recommend this service to anyone. They made our trip to Sweden effortless. We encountered passport problems at the start of our trip which resulted in a delay and Cecilia was able to rearrange everything for us. She went above and beyond in service to us. This is the only way to go and I would definitely use this service again. Our Southern Iceland self-driving tour was wonderful. Working with Larus, at Nordic visitor, was a breeze, even though he was coordinating a trip for members from the US and Australia.
He changed accommodations and upgraded things without any problems. The maps and booklets really let us know what to expect and how to prepare.
Our accommodations were wonderful.
There was a mistake made in rooms, one evening, but Larus found another hotel in a very short time. We had to drive a little further, but it was well worth it.
The last night was right on the busiest street in Reykjavic.
